About Us

First Christian Church of Hannibal is an inspiring facility comprised of the sanctuary building made of stone, a three-floored educational building and a gym / fellowship hall complete with stage and full kitchen.

We are a congregation that is moving to the cutting edge of worship while still maintaining our traditional forms of worship as well. We may be a congregation with a 168-year history but we are not afraid to try new and exciting things.

We have a staff of five people and a daycare / preschool program that boast an enrollment of 65-70 children from 2 years old to fifth grade. Our Wee Care program has been teaching and caring for children for the last 20 years.

First Christian Church is a congregation that partners with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ In Indianapolis, Indiana; we reach out into our community, region and world through our national ministries .

Our church staff consists of Rev. Steve Barker, Mariah Weyand, Anita Groner and Anita Foster.

Rev. Steve Barker is our Senior Minister and originates from Kansas City, Missouri. He has spent his entire ministry of 35 years in this beautiful state. He came to First Christian Church of Hannibal in September 2002 from Blue Springs, Missouri. He is married and has three adult children and six grandchildren. He enjoys fishing (both angling and fly) and still finds hunting a delightful challenge.

Pastor Steve received his B.A. from Culver-Stockton College and his Masters of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology. He has served each community he has lived in through various opportunities; he has served as a Law Enforcement Chaplain and Fire Department Chaplain. He currently serves the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as a Chaplain assigned to the Kansas City / St. Louis offices.

Mariah Weyand is our Youth Minister and has been with us since July, 2004. She is from Illinois and received her B.S. from Hannibal-LaGrange College. She loves children and comes from a large family, whom she loves dearly. All of her youth groups are active in local and regional events. She loves preparing for our mission trips each year with our youth and adults.

Anita Groner is our Church Office Manager. With her background as a Pastor’s wife and her wonderful skills of organization, the office runs very efficiently. She has a wonderful family and loves to spend time with her daughters and granddaughters. Anita holds a B.S. degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College.

Anita Foster is our director for the WEE CARE preschool. She began as a teacher in our preschool / daycare program and was hired as Director two years ago. She oversees the entire program and all of its entities. Our program boasts 65-75 children in preschool / daycare and after school programs.
