Welcome to First Christian Church… YOUTH

Here at First Christian Church our children and youth are offered a wide variety of exciting opportunities to enjoy meaningful relationships within the church family, experience ministry as we serve others, and develop Christian values which affect every area of life. It is our goal to provide fun in a caring atmosphere for every young person we meet!

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

The congregation of First Christian Church welcomes children! We believe that children are an important part of our church family, and we are blessed to have them among us! We rest on the truth that we are to " Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray." (Proverbs 22:6). Our children's ministry leads children into a relationship with Jesus Christ that will last a lifetime. We encourage you to seek out ways for your child(ren) to participate in many of the age appropriate activities.

JUNIOR YOUTH FELLOWSHIP is offered to all 3rd-6th graders. JYF provides an opportunity for children to enjoy a variety of learning, fun, and ministry events. We meet on Sunday evenings, September through May, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Meetings include a simple supper, games, and an active learning experience. Other events range from ice skating, bowling, and lock-ins to caroling, nursing home ministry, and the annual Christmas Play. JYF also enjoys a weekend mission trip in the summer as well as great summer camp experiences. See youth ministries for more information. We invite your child to find a place in JYF.

SUNDAY SCHOOL is provided for children of all ages. Classes begin at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday morning. We have had great success with curriculum from Cokesbury and are currently using it in all children’s classes. There are classes for toddler through four years old, kindergarten through 2nd grade, and 3rd through 5th grade.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH is offered during the 10:30 a.m. worship service for children four years old through 3rd grade. Our focus is to instill a sense of “Worship and Wonder” in our children as they go through a sacred worship experience designed just for them. The activities are designed for children to enter more deeply into the life of faith in Jesus Christ.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is held during one week of summer. Bible School combines learning about the Christian faith with crafts, music, recreation and refreshments. We use Gospel Light’s VBS curriculum and are excited about summer 2007 “SONFORCE KIDS.”

NURSERY CARE is provided for infants, toddlers and preschoolers through four years of age during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Nursery care is also provided at other church-wide events.

YOUTH MINISTRIES

Our mission with youth focuses on spiritual and personal growth through programs of worship, fellowship, study, and service. First Christian Church believes in the power of youth and the role they will play in the future as leaders and members, as well as the role they play in the church today. First Christian Church encourages all youth to join together in the adventure of growth and learning as young Christians. We teach youth to “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (I Timothy 4:12). Visitors are always welcome to be a part of our youth activities.

CHRISTIAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP takes place every Wednesday night, September through May, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This is a time for 7th-12th graders to get together for a simple snack, games, and devotional time. Conferences, movies, scavenger hunts, Six Flags, and paintballing are just a few of the wide range of weekend activities CYF enjoys.

SUNDAY SCHOOL for youth in grades 6-12 is offered every Sunday at 9:15 a.m.

MISSION TRIPS are the highlight of our year. CYF takes a week to travel to a community and minister to them where they need it the most. Whether we are working on houses, assisting in a nursing home, or offering a kids' club, there are always plenty of ways to help. We also offer a weekend mission trip for JYF. We travel to a local community and hold kids' clubs for the children. These trips are designed to teach our youth what it means to be disciples acting as Christ’s hands and feet in the world around us.

CHURCH CAMP
Disciples of Christ have a wonderful camping program for 2nd-12th graders. There is also a family camp offered for all ages. These camps provide God-centered outdoor adventures, and ministries that offer youth many new and exciting opportunities. The camping programs serve to build Christian character and community while exploring beliefs, new skills, and God’s gifts. Summer camping is a safe, meaningful, and fun experience for the youngest beginner to the most experienced camper.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

CYF is a place where all youth are invited to escape. It is a place where we can build relationships that will encourage and support us in every part of life. At CYF we can expect to explore what it means to be a Christian through studying the instruction God has given us through the Bible. We know that through studying the Bible we will not only grow to love Christ but to also love each other. As we grow in our relationship with Christ, we will learn to use the gifts God has given us to serve others. We know that by serving others and showing them the love Christ has for them, the world will be a better place.

In order to make sure this goal happens we must:

1. Commit to participate with a happy attitude to as many meetings, fun events, ministry activities, and fundraisers as possible.
2. Be patient and cooperative no matter what is planned.
3. Show respect to others, no matter who they are.
4. Show love and care to others, no matter who they are.
5. Always listen to others, especially during our time of study.
Through following these five commandments of CYF we will make our time together fun and enjoyable!

We believe and proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
We strive as a community of believers to share the love of God with others, as taught by the scriptures and illuminated by the Holy Spirit.
